What to Check on a Whey Protein Label Before Buying

A whey protein label should help you compare what you are buying. Before choosing a flavor or bundle, check the serving information, ingredients, and total cost.

Protein grams and serving size

Read both the grams of protein and the serving size. Scoop sizes vary between products, and one serving may require more than one scoop. Comparing “one scoop” across brands can produce a misleading result. Use the serving size printed on each label.

Protein source and the full ingredient list

Check whether the product lists whey protein isolate, whey protein concentrate, or a blend. Then read the remaining ingredients, including flavors, sweeteners, and thickeners. Choose based on the complete label rather than a single front-of-pack claim.

Allergens and personal requirements

Whey comes from milk. Check the allergen statement and any other dietary information that matters to you. Do not assume a protein powder is dairy-free because of its flavor, or lactose-free because it contains isolate.

Compare the actual cost

Divide the price by the stated number of servings to calculate cost per serving. To compare protein amounts, divide the price by the total grams of protein in the container. For a hypothetical $40 tub with 20 servings containing 20g protein each, that means $2 per serving and $0.10 per gram of protein. Add shipping when comparing delivered prices.

Vanilla or chocolate?

Fortomnia Vanilla Whey and Fortomnia Chocolate Whey each list 22g protein per serving from a blend of whey isolate and concentrate. Both are currently $55.00. Vanilla has a 480g container and chocolate has a 525g container; check each product's label rather than assuming equal serving counts from the tub weight.

The label directions for both specify one serving as two scoops mixed with 8–12 oz of cold water. Review the full ingredients and directions on the product page before ordering.

When a bundle makes sense

If you want both whey and creatine, the vanilla Build + Recover Bundle and chocolate Build + Recover Bundle cost $78.90 each. That saves $10 compared with buying the included products separately at current prices.
